Hotel review of the Executive Plaza Coquitlam
Jan 12, 2010
My first impression wasn't good for this hotel, I found the front desk staff not
overly friendly and wasn't offered any information about the hotel (although
this did vary during my 2 night stay). Upon inquiring about the shuttle to the
mall, I was left with the impression that I could get a ride if the shuttle
driver happened to be available. So you wouldn't want to count on that. As free
internet has become so standard in most hotels (and I stay in hotels on average
twice a month), I didn't verify this upon booking. When I got in my room, I
found the internet is 9.95 per day to use.
I almost drank the bottled water left in the room until I noticed the banner on
the other bottle, telling me that it was $2 per bottle. Don't even consider
complimentary coffee or cookies in the lobby as many hotels offer. I have been
to many hotels that for an equivalent cost offer free internet, free bottled
water, free phone calling in local areas, and complementary coffee and muffins
in the morning, and I find these are the little touches that I appreciate and
that keep me coming back.
Among the positives, I found the level of cleanliness in my room quite
satisfactory , and the hotel is close to a Skytrain and within walking distance
of the Lougheed Mall.

We found the hotel quite nice over all including the staff, lobby & rooms. It
was clean and well presented, kids enjoyed the pool. Long way from central
Vancouver but convenient to malls& shopping. Found it strange that they had a
band playing loud dance music in the lobby/ dining area, but could not be heard
5 floors up. Irish pub next door takes up all the parking if you go out at
night, parking is only secure from midnight-6am.

The room we were allocated was big and had a lovely king size bed. The decor is
a little dated but everything was very clean & tidy. We were room only and did
not get around to eating in the hotel. Staff were friendly.
excellent hotel for the price and very central location close to the Lougheed
mall and sky train.
Very highly recommended

Stayed at this hotel since the one I wanted by the river was booked up. The
staff was not that friendly, during check in, I seemed to be inconveniencing
them. They warned me not to leave anything in the car, the reason I picked this
hotel was that they had secured parking. The room was nice, the tub/whirlpool is
a bit difficult to get in and out of. On check out, the front desk guy didn't
say a word to me even when I thanked him. Oh, I also get a room away from the
Irish bar next door, the music lasted til about 1am Saturday. Overall this was a
decent value for the price.

Compared to a 5star hotel, yes it is lacking, for the average traveler it was
fine, location, shopping, restaurants all within walking distance and a good
base location. Staff were polite, convenient parking.
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. While there, we noticed that this hotel
catered to large groups of Korean tourists and conference goers.
The rooms are average to small in size with all the expected amenities. We had 4
people staying in the room and were slightly surprised to find out the rooms had
2 double beds as opposed to queen size. So this is something to keep in mind if
space is a concern.
Our stay was average with the exception of housekeeping services which I found
to be quite poor. We were not given enough towels, toilet paper etc...We called
housekeeping daily to get more towels and supplies delivered to our room.
The hotel has a small exercise room and pool and a small hot tub outside. Also,
the hotel is smoke-free inside which for us was a great bonus.
On the plus side, parking for hotel guests is free. It is a short walk (5 min)
to the Lougheed Town Centre mall and Skytrain station which will take you into
downtown Vancouver in about 30-40 minutes depending on the time of day.
Furthermore, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus to the mall for shoppers. We
found these perks to be a great bonus considering the price of parking per day
within Vancouver itself.
The Port Coquitlam Ikea is a short 5 minute drive away as well.
There are plenty of ethnic and regular restaurants around this area including
the hotel restaurant which served breakfast, and an Irish pub attached the
hotel.
I'd recommend it to business travellers or to those who are familiar with the
lower mainland areas wanting to visit Vancouver for shopping/sightseeing.
