Guest Review of the Coast Plaza Hotel Vancouver

I recently stayed for three nights here. The staff were really friendly and the
housekeeping was excellent.
The rooms are a little dated and could do with new carpets, curtains and decor
but they are doing the best with what they have as they keep it clean. The bed
linens seemed new and the bedroom and living room of the suite both had flat
screen TV's.
The suite had a kitchen (including an oven), but I didn't use the kitchen as I
was only there to sleep. There was also an iron and ironing board for
convenience.
The night views from the hotel are pretty, due to the many floors its nice to
look out at the city. The hotel is located pretty centrally and is in walking
distance to most things down town. There is also a pool but i never went looking
for it as I didn't spend lots of time at the hotel.

Where to begin...this is an old building, and it shows. It's desperately in need
of updates. There are 4 elevators for the hotel, all are extremely slow. The
room I was in looked straight out of the 70's, from the purple fixtures in the
bathroom to the polyester tailored bed spread that gets washed once a month. The
lino in the kitchenette had holes in it, the wall paper was coming apart at the
seams. There was mold on the roof in the bathroom, likely due to no ventilation
available. Thank goodness the wi-fi is free, because when you can maintain a
connection (router was constantly booting me) it's extremely slow. There was a
mild wind one night which kept slamming a vent somewhere on the building right
outside my window, was extremely frustrating. Will not be staying at this Coast
again.

My wife and I spent three very comfortable nights in this hotel. It compared
extremely well with the other 4 star hotels we had stayed in in Montreal,
Ottawa, Toronto, Banff and Jasper.
Very handy location for the incomparable Stanley Park and for Denman and Davie
Streets, Sunset Beach, West End and English Bay, but somewhat out of the way
from the city centre, Waterfront and Gastown. Nevertheless, city transport is
great and nowhere seems too distant on foot. A great variety of eateries within
a stones throw of the hotel.
The large lobby was manned by friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, the
banks of lifts kept waiting time to a minimum and the rooms on the 18th floor
were spacious, clean, comfortable and well appointed - apart from a lack of
overhead lighting, which made reading difficult.
The swimming pool was larger than many - some 18 x 14 metres & reasonably warm,
the whirlpool and saunas were good. TVs in the bedrooms were large & modern,
writing desks & armchairs were functional, hanging space was generous.
We enjoyed tasty meals in the restaurant and the brasserie. Good steaks and fish
& chips. Friendly & efficient service and reasonable prices for wines & beers.
My only complaints were that the top floor proved inaccessible and, as with all
the other Canadian hotels we stayed in, the pillows were too large & the loo
paper too thin!

We recently stayed here for one week and it was great. We selected a King suite
with a kitchen as we wanted to have breakfast there. The room was a great size
with a wonderful view. It was a little tired and could use with some updating
especially in the kitchen and bathroom. The room was very quiet and had a big
balcony. The location made it perfect. Close to stores and restaurants as well
as Stanley Park. The bed was very comfortable as well. The staff were all very
polite and efficient. Would stay here again if in Vancouver even though it is
not a fancy hotel but had everything we needed. |
