the hotel is wonderfully well situated for shopping and eating. The
people are very nice! You have to try the waffles for the breakfast.
However if you ever need internet access, you will have to go to the
Starbucks across the street as the wifi is so slow, we were desperate.
The only time it was working a little bit better was at 4pm, not very
convenient. I don't know if it is Canada but I found it expensive for
the standard of the room offered.

My husband and I and our two friends stayed here for one night before
embarking on an Alaska cruise, and again on our return from the cruise
for three nights before travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer. We had
lovely rooms with excellent facilities and greatly enjoyed the buffet
breakfast every day! The hotel was in a very good location for
sightseeing and we were able to walk almost everywhere and also caught
the hop on hop off tour bus right opposite the hotel.
The staff were very helpful although the lady in the gift shop in
reception was rather rude and pushy - so we bought our postcards
elsewhere!

We arrived at 2 pm and we not allowed to check in until 4pm (there is no
check in times posted on their website) We had to find something to do
until that time, not to mention parking in Vancouver is hard, even more
so since our car could not fit in their parking garage so we had to park
in an open lot across the street. when we got to our room our air
conditioner did not work and seeing it was summer and very warm outside
and we were walking around for a few hours until we checked in, we could
not cool down very well. It took them 2 hours to find us another room
with a working air conditioner. The rooms were clean, and finally it was
a relief to go to bed on the first night. The next day after a long day
of touring the city - Tuesday mind you, We had dinner and headed to bed
around 7pm and when we got to our room we could not go to bed. There was
some sort of party in the bar below us till 2am in the morning. If it
were the weekend I would not have been so bad as there would have been
more for us to do in the evening, but a Tuesday and the next day we had
to drop a friend off at the airport. They should have a least let us
know ahead of time or not put us in that particular room. Most places
have a say in what can go on in the building especially a hotel holding
the majority of the space that is being used, as they would want their
customers coming back. It was horrible for us and we were exhausted from
our 3 day vacation not rested/relaxed. Be careful when booking this
hotel for your stay and ask a lot of questions. Ask for a room higher
than the 2nd floor and not on the far side of the building.

This was booked through a travel agent as part of a tour of
Canada/Rockies. After reading numerous and varied comments it would
appear that there are different standards of rooms for different
travellers. Ours was a dinghy 6th floor room with discolored,
threadbare/holey 'net' curtains. Furnishings were old and grubby.
Overall and old and tired room. Expected to have a safe in the room as
we were only there for 3 nights and did not want to carry all our
valuables about therefore we enquired about a safety deposit box and
were advised that none were available but we could store our stuff in
the managers safe. We did this for one night but not exactly convenient.
This hotel would not be my choice if I ever visit Vancouver again which
is highly unlikely.

Unfortunately I booked the Holiday Inn for a 2.5 week stay while
visiting family in Vancouver. I was not informed that the hotel was
undergoing renovations; that there was no swimming pool; there was no
exercise facility; that the prices remained unadjusted for their
deficiencies.
My room had paint peeling in every aspect; old bathroom fixtures; old
furniture; inadequate electrical outlets.
Power was off for most of one day, and elevators were not serviceable at
some times.
I requested significant reduction in the cost of the inadequate
facilities, but I was not even afforded the benefit of AAA discount to
which I was entitled. After talking to several people at the hotel and
to a general complaint line to which I was referred, I moved out. The
Park Lane Hotel across the street was better and less expensive.
Don't patronize this facility unless you check first to find out about
the status of their renovation and their prices. Look at other locations
and hotels. |
