Although my room was not available until the afternoon, the wonderful staff
"pre-registered" me, and the concierge relieved me of my bags. Once in the room
I was very pleased with the essential comforts...but, the view was truly
amazing! I was in room 3105 and had a full 180 view of the city! I too noticed
that some updates within the hotel will be a welcome...but, for this seasoned
traveler...there is no better value in Vancouver!

Front desk staff was very friendly. I had a suite on the 17th floor with a great
view and jacuzzi tub. The location was close to many restaurants and Stanley
Park. Only a 20 minute walk to the convention center. Will definitely return!

We stayed here 3 nights after getting off a cruise ship. They let us check in at
9AM and had a room for us. The hotel is quite nice with a mall, grocery store,
and restaurant attached to the hotel. There is a free shuttle down town. The
room was very nice, clean, and had a great kitchenette. There is a laundry mat
in the hotel, an indoor pool, and free computer was an added plus. The
Concierges were fantastic and gave us great info.
The location of the hotel was quite good, 10 minute walk from Stanley Park or
the waterfront.

We booked this room because it's in a great location, close to many great
restaurants and interesting shops. Our first room was quite large with a
kitchenette. It felt as if we were thrown back into another decade. The bed was
comfortable. However, the noise from the elevators was too loud. The front desk
was accommodating at request to be moved. The next room was even bigger, no
kitchenette, but that was fine. The room was enormous, it had a cloak room, wet
bar, and meeting table. This room was in need of an update as well. The sofas
were very old and tired, the blankets were thread-bare and this bed was lumpy. I
felt as if I had gone back to the 1980s.
However it had anamazing view. Just beautiful, we spent most of our time on the
balcony.

This hotel seems to be 1960s construction, with little renovation since (the
concrete exterior is showing its age, the furniture is getting a little beat up,
the toilet in my bathroom frequently took 2 flushes to clear completely, etc.).
A major renovation is pending (allegedly underway, though I did not see any
signs of it), and this should bring the hotel back up to the 3* level.
Unfortunately, it will probably also raise the price to the lofty levels that
are typical of Vancouver in the summer.
In its current state, there is still a lot to like about the hotel. The staff
was very helpful. The rooms were very clean. The area is very quiet (all I ever
heard in my room was the nearby elevator). Also, the wireless is free ... but as
slow as molasses (officially 1 MB/s.; that's a generous estimate) , in my
experience.
The hotel is located in a residential area near downtown ... S/F houses,
high-rise apartments, many restaurants and shops along Denman St. (1 blk. away)
and Davie St. (2 blks.). There is a neighborhood mall beneath the hotel, with a
grocery store among other shops. Very much like Europe. There are refrigerators
in the rooms, so you could buy food there and take it up to eat. It took me
between 20 & 25 minutes to walk to the convention center at Canada Place (Google
Maps says 25 min.). It is a pleasant walk with nice scenery. About the first
half of the walk, down to Georgia St., is through a residential neighborhood, &
the rest through the commercial center of downtown. |
