We stayed here in Dec. 2011, and had a great time. We arrived at the hotel a
little before check in, and asked to stow our bags while we wondered around
town. They actually had a room available and allowed us to check in early, which
was much appreciated.
Our room came with a view of the harbor, and the view was great. We even had a
balcony which was nice, but at this time of year, pretty cold. Other than that,
the bed was extremely comfortable, the room was big, and everything was clean.
The entire staff was very helpful, and very friendly.
Next time we are up in Vancouver, we would definitely consider coming back.

We were at the hotel for 3 days and thought the property and the service were
exceptional for the price. The hotel we usually stay at wasn't available and we
found this comparable at a better price so it's thr Renaissance from now on !!

We went to Vancouver for a mini vacation. We stayed here at the Renaissance, and
I'm not going to lie, my first impression was that the hotel looked very nice
when you walk in. We went up the stairs to the concierge to check in and gave
him my name. He couldn't find it, and the first thing he said to us was, "Are
you sure you are staying here at this hotel...are you sure it isn't the Marriott
across the street?" I was so offended because he was being so condescending! I
know Renaissance is part of Marriott, but I also know the difference between the
hotels and I am definitely aware of where I booked my stay!!! He finally found
our reservation.
After we settled in and we headed down to go to dinner, we stopped and asked the
same guy if he had any recommendations on where to eat since we were only
staying for a couple of nights and wanted to have the best experience we could.
(we had to ask him cause there was no one else working there at that time). He
didn't even look up from his computer, and said, "there's a lot of places, just
go to Robson street." My boyfriend and I both looked at each other and said to
him, we will go there, but is there a specific place you can maybe recommend,
and he said just go there and I'm sure you will find something. Worst customer
service ever! We then proceeded down the stairs to try to find something to eat,
and we figured we would try asking the doorman, Hector. I cannot tell you how
great and helpful he was! He gave us 5 different recommendations and was super
nice about it. He explained how to get to the restaurants and let us know that
if we needed anything else he would be happy to help. Now that's what I call
customer service! Cesar, who is another person that was working at the concierge
was also super nice and helpful. He always had a smile on his face and helped.
Honestly, the hotel was in an okay location of downtown. It's a 5 block walk to
the main street, but the view of the Harbour is very nice. The rooms are decent,
but the customer service really killed it for me. I wouldn't stay here again nor
would I recommend it to my friends. Our initial meeting with the guy at the
concierge desk really ruined my experience at this hotel. Renaissance hotel is
known around the world and I've stayed at this hotel many times in other
locations and I've never had this type of experience before.

I was able to snag our room using Name Your Price on Priceline at a very good
price. The hotel is well run and the front desk personnel very friendly and
helpful. The room was very nice although, as others have commented, the climate
control is odd - an old-fashioned disc style thermostat that we were never sure
was actually working. The room was at time somewhat cool (not good in November)
when we thought the heat should be on. But we were greeted by a paper in the
morning, decent in-room coffee and WiFi in the lobby (with computers in the
lobby too, a nice touch). The location is nice for a walk in the newer Coal
Harbour area. The walk up to Robson Street is about 5-6 long blocks, which was
okay so long as it wasn't raining too hard. Again, complimentary umbrellas at
the hotel to use. We also enjoyed the pleasant, if a bit small, hot tub in the
pool area. Overall, a nice stay and we'd stay there again.
Room Tip: Rooms on the south side look towards other downtown hotels and
buildings. The south side looks at the harbour and mountains, but you'll pay
more, of course.

I often stay here for business as I'm a Marriott Platinum guest and need to keep
points up. This hotel is clean a d very well situated in the downtown core. If
traveling on a romantic weekend - as another reviewer was - you could do better
by staying at an independent niche hotel or go all out for the Four Seasons or
try the newly renovated Hotel Georgia which has excellent art deco finishing.
The Renaissance has good! Well equipped rooms with desks! Internet and
flatscreen TVs. Breakfast buffet is very good with lots of choices. |
