Fishing
If you bring your fishing rod, we can arrange a license. Sit
across the street by the river or on the dock nearby and wait for a
catch. During salmon season there are sockeye, pink, chum, chinook,
coho and steelhead. There are also cod, halibut, sturgeon and red
snapper. Fishing charters to the Gulf of Georgia and Gulf Islands
can be arranged. Boating
There
is a boat launch directly across the road for power boats and
paddlers. Kayakers and canoeists experienced with tidal estuaries
and currents can enjoy bird watching and wildlife viewing from the
protected north side of Steveston Island.
In Steveston, tour companies provide waterfront tours, sea lion
tours, whale watching tours and fishing charters. Bicycling and Walking

Turn
to the east from the front door along the dyke past London Heritage
Farm, to take in the sweeping views of farmers fields to the north,
and over the river south to the Olympic Peninsula and Mount Baker.
West is Steveston's working harbour, home to 1,000 fishing boats,
the largest commercial fleet in Canada, and scenic views to the Gulf
Islands. Beyond Steveston, one can walk along the path to Terra Nova
with views over Sturgeon Banks to Vancouver Island. There are more
than 20 kilometers of flat biking and walking trails on recreational
paths directly accessible from the Abercrombie House. Visiting Steveston Village
Steveston
Village is a valued heritage area with buildings dating from the
1880s. At the turn of the century, Steveston was the world’s busiest
fishing port with 14 fish canneries seasonally employing as many as
10,000 workers of Japanese, Chinese, Finnish and Aboriginal
ancestry.
