Hotel Review of the
Sundial Boutique Hotel Whistler
Nov 17, 2010
I'm from Vancouver and not much of a snow sport kind of person, but I always try
to go up to Whistler in the summer/fall when it's not so busy and expensive.
I always stay at the Sundial Hotel when I go up and it's a great place to stay.
I always try to get one of the rooms with a private hot tub on the balcony.
These rooms are located on the 3rd, 7th, and 8th floors. They are obviously
worth a bit more money, but in the fall they are totally worth the money for a
little weekend getaway. The staff is great and always accommodating. The hotel
doesn't have a pool or gym, but there is a hot tub for those who don't get one
of these rooms. It is a great location at the edge of the village. The suites
are clean and come with a complete kitchen, dining room, and living area. Heated
floors in the bathroom are nice. The couch in the living room are pull-out beds
also. Parking is about $23 a day in their secure underground parkade.
A great weekend getaway! Plenty of places to eat, shop, and play or just chill
out at the hotel in a hot tub and enjoy the amazing surrounding mountain views.
We happened to pick a great weekend to go because there was a meteor shower
happening. We just sat in our 8th floor hot tub and looked up at the sky to
catch some shooting stars!

We decided to go to Whistler for the weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday and
needed an affordable hotel room with two bedrooms. A search on the usual travel
site turned up the Sundial and when I cross checked it on TripAdvisor, I was
very pleased to see it rated so highly. Sundial's website offered many different
room types and packages and for some reason the "Bed and Breakfast" package was
less expensive than a "room only" deal. We booked a two bedroom view suite and
were impresssed with its cleanliness and size when we arrived late Friday night.
The next morning we opened the curtains and were really stunned with the view
and with how close we were to the lifts - we had booked gondola tickets online
and they were just a few hundred feet away. I'd had a theory why the breakfast
package was so cheap and I was right, as a simple breakfast for 4 with coffees
came to $60.00. We has planned to use one $30 certificate per day but instead
decided to use both at once and had a better and cheaper breakfast in our suite
the next morning.
The room itself was modern and fully equipped. The kitchen had everything we
needed, the master bedroom had a large jetted tub which we did not expect, and
the suite was extremely clean everywhere. A few reviews mentioned noise from the
bars in the Village and we did hear a little bit Saturday night but it was not
much and was over by 10:30. However, we both felt the the bed was not
comfortable and had noticeable backaches after 2 nights, and the layout of the
bathroom within the suite was a little strange... In addition to the bathroom's
main door, there was also a sliding wooden door leading to the master bedroom,
so we were woken up by the kids using the bathroom late each night and kept
awake until they were finished. For this reason, this room would be ideal for a
couple with young children or 2 couples that know each other very well. There
was a sofabed as well so the room could accommodate up to 6. Overall, the
Sundial impressed us and we will likely stay there again the next time we go to
Whistler.

Location location!
This hotel is excellent value in the middle of Whistler village. We changed to a
bigger suite and the front desk staff were very helpful. The cleaning staff did
a wonderful job. The suites are smaller than other suites we’ve stayed in at
other hotels. We would certainly consider staying there again in the future.

Will consider staying again.
Other than the parking garage issue, I would recommend this hotel to others.

Good service and ambience in the single bdrm suite
The staff were friendly and well knowledgeable on how to get around the village.
We booked a zipline tour and needed to find the retail location. The room was
well designed with granite and marble counter tops. It was comfortable and
clean. I wish the hotel would install new LCD TVs as our room still had a CRT
TV. The complimentary DVDs were a definite bonus as it helped pass some time in
the hotel room. The bathtub and toilet could also use some updating but the
overall feeling of the bathroom was comfortable. The bedroom was great. The King
bed was hardly noticeable that the fact it was actually two beds but I would
have to say the bed was too soft for me.

The accommodation at the Sundial is of the highest quality. I was able to find
much cheaper prices on
www.allure-hotels.com than on the hotel's own website. We stayed in a one
bedroom suite with hot tub, wow!! Sitting in the tub looking out over the
mountains as the sun sets, just perfect. There is a well equipped kitchen which
we used on 3 of our 4 nights. This allowed the rare treat of dinner at the Rimrock Cafe, where the food is amazing.

You can't beat the location and convenience. One-bedrooms are large and spacious
with full kitchen. Great restaurants on premises. You can have it all: ski all
day with the lifts a few steps from your door; at night, explore the village and
all its activity or stay in and relax. I would stay here again and again.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Sundial and we loved it...from the
rooftop hot tub which was not busy to the tasty breakfast in Black's Restaurant
everything was fantastic and did not disappoint. Location is great and hotel
staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. Our suite was roomy and the view was
great. The only thing I will do different next time is book a room with a
personal hot tub.
