Hotel Review of the Fairmont Hotel Chateau Whistler
Dec 24, 2010
The Fairmont Whistler location cannot be beaten if skiing is what you
are looking for. It couldn't be closer to the lifts. Spacious rooms,
cleary recently redone, very large flat screen TVs in a very spacious
suite that was quite comfortable for a family of 4. Bathrooms cannot be
considered 5 stars but this being a mountain hotel, quite acceptable.
The lobby is beautiful. Nice breakfast buffet, adequately priced.
Concierge is one of the best I have had the chance to use. Complimentary
ski valet. Overall very polite and eager to help staff. As has been
mentioned a very short walk to the village or a quick shuttle ride.
Recommended.

My wife, 3 year old and I just spent the weekend at the Fairmont
Whistler. We were able to arrange an upgrade to a one bedroom suite on
the gold floor. While the living room area of the suite was small with
just enough room for a love seat that pulls out into a bed, a small desk
and fridge, the bedroom, bathroom and walk in closet were all reasonably
sized. Having access to the gold floor lounge was a major plus. The
staff members in the gold lounge were exceptionally helpful and
welcoming: everyone there was simply superb. The breakfasts were
delicious, and it was a real help with a young child being able to get
access to milk, juice and snacks without needing to go to a restaurant.
The hotel was very family friendly: one of the large conference areas is
set up over the holiday season with an enormous bouncy castle,
trampoline, and video games for kids. It was a hit with our 3 year old.
The self parking is $30 per night which seemed a little stiff but given
the hotel’s location this probably should have been expected. Not having
to pay for internet on the gold floor was great; however, it was
excruciatingly slow: everyone else must also have been enjoying the free
internet service as well.

Stayed here in December 2010 and we were exceptionally lucky with the
snow coverage and benefitted greatly from all of the refurbishments
going on due to the Winter Olympics.
On arrival we were told our travel operator cancelled our booking,
however when we were able to produce all of our documentation they knew
there had been a mistake. The check-in team were professional, friendly
and for our trouble upgraded us to a mountain view room.
The views from this hotel are fantastic and is conveniently located at
the foot of Blackcomb Mountain - fantastic ski-in, ski-out location.
The people in the ski shop inside the hotel were fantastic and helped me
out on several occasions, when I picked up incorrect gear etc. and
nothing was too much trouble for them.
The Fairmont is a five minute walk from Whistler village but its easy to
get to and if you dont fancy walking there is a free shuttle service
running.
The food is a little expensive and the breakfast buffet doesn't have a
lot of variety, but the general menu is good and you can always nip into
town to get something to eat or drink.
Overall this is a brilliant hotel, I couldn't have asked for more.
Hotel Review of the Fairmont Hotel Chateau Whistler

We just got back from Whistler on Friday night. We stayed at the
Fairmont for 5 nights. Most of the reviews are right on. While parts of
the hotel are a bit dated, like the pink and green decor on the elevator
doors, you really can't beat the ski in/out amenity. We booked a 'slopeside
view' room and the view was indeed great. The room itself was a bit
dated with the really old tv, but the bed was amazing! And well, that's
the important part, right? Apparently, they are slowing updating all the
rooms, and we just happened to get a room that wasn't updated yet.
However, it was still very comfortable and spacious.
Service was impeccable... staff was very friendly and helpful. The walk
into the village is about 10 mins though. The hotel does offer a
shuttle, but it only makes 3 stops in the Village. It’s not door to door
service. However, one night while out to dinner, the restaurant called
the hotel for a pickup, and the shuttle did make the ‘exception’ to pick
us up at the door.
The food at the Mallard Lounge was excellent, but a bit pricey. It is in
line with the food prices at every other nice hotel. Hotel food is never
cheap. At least their food is worth the price, unlike most hotels.
This Fairmont would be the perfect place for ski lovers.. but if you
plan on not skiing all that much, and plan on spending more time in the
Village, you may not want to stay there due to the walk. The resort is
set up so you can be on the slopes within just a few mins of leaving
your hotel room. You can literally ski to the steps leading to the Ski
Valet area. And you can walk through the hotel to get to the ski valet
area. You carry your skis up a few steps, and you’re at the lift.
