Hotel Review of the
Sundial Boutique Hotel Whistler
Oct 8, 2010
It started with high expectations. The fancy web site, the "boutique" in the
name and the emails we got from the hotel, all made me expect a very luxurious
stay. This pretentious spirit lingered on when we walked in and found chocolates
on our kitchen table and Aveda products in the shower. However, this is where it
stopped. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite. The "public" space in the suite
(kitchen and living room) was spacious and well- appointed. The bedrooms,
however, were extremely small. We needed a crib fitted into our room, and it
took quite a lot of effort to just to tuck it in. We practically couldn't move
inside the room once the crib was there. When we contacted the front desk and
asked for another room, they were quite dismissive and I got the impression they
didn't go out of their way to help us.
The shower was extremely inconvenient, with nowhere to put the soap inside the
shower itself, and toilet that hardly flushed. It was a warm day, yet we
couldn't leave the windows open as the street noise, till very late at night,
made it very difficult for us and for the kids to sleep (and we were at the 6th
floor, in a so-called mountain view room).
So all in all, we had a annoying stay at this hotel. It felt crowded, hot and
uncomfortable. Nothing even remotely luxurious. I would definitely recommend
that families with young children think twice before booking this hotel.

My girl-friend and I were on a summer camping trip (roughing it) and
decided to enjoy nice hotel stay before heading home. We were just
looking for a nice shower and running water and Sundial exceeded all my
expectation (I travel a lot and not often I am surprised).
The room is a large suite (Full kitchen, living room with fire place and
work desk). The service was great, we arrived early and had to wait for
our room, we left our number and was called once the room was ready.
Roof top hot tub was nice too (great view)
Nice extra touch:
- Fresh lemon water at lobby.
- Free DVD rental
Would love to stay here again.

I deliberated over where to stay in Whistler for absolutely ages, but
eventually settled on spending and extra £20 or so per night, to finish
off our Calgary to Vancouver trip in style. And I am so glad I did!
This place is immaculate. The one bed roomed suite consisted of a big
open plan living room, dining area and kitchen, as well as a separate
bedroom and a good sized bathroom. The decor was great and felt and
looked of very good quality.
The location was fantastic, walking straight out into Whistler Village
from the front door.
My only criticism is that the bedroom was very small and the wardrobe in
an awkward place, so it meant either dancing around bags full of
clothes, or having a stress fest each time you went to get something out
of the wardrobe. The only other small thing was that the hotel lobby
didn't have any useful leaflets on what to do in the area and we had to
make a trip down to the tourist info centre for these. But on the plus
side, we were given a map upon check in, so knew where to find it!!
All in all a great place to stay and I fear booking anywhere else when
we next visit as I'm sure it won't live up my now very high
expectations, courtesy of the Sundial.
Book, book, book!

Stayed in a mountain view suite in August 2010. Feels a little more like
a serviced apartment than a hotel but suite was very nice indeed -
spacious, clean, well-appointed and plenty of space for 5 of us at a
very reasonable price. Secure underground parking on-site. Nice Jacuzzi
on roof and lovely views from rooms.
Whistler itself was slightly disappointing - I hadn't realised that it
was all purpose built so lacked any local charm and restaurants very
expensive compared to Vancouver. Probably more atmospheric at the height
of winter and hotel is right next to main lifts so would be a good
choice for skiers. This hotel is definitely one to consider and I would
recommend to others.

We booked my in-laws at the Sundial for their visit from the UK to allow
them to be right in Whistler Village. From the moment they walked into
the room they were blown away by the views, the size of the suite, the
amenities and the service of all of the staff. The rooms were very
comfortable, and the suite had everything anyone could need. The
location is wonderful, as we were on the 8th floor overlooking the
mountain and the village so great for some people watching. The booking
and weekend were such a success I've booked myself and 12 friends in to
stay for a weekend in October. HIGHLY recommended.

Spent two nights at the Sundial. Excellent accommodation on the sixth
floor overlooking the mountains, more like a small one bedroom condo.
Excellent bed and kitchen area with all the extra's most folks are
looking for. Service was top notch as we had two small problems but both
were fixed within five minutes with visits from the service staff. Most
frequent travellers know these issues usually take hours in most hotels
before anyone shows up.
On the front desk "Liz" is a real gem, maybe one of the best front desk
people I have ever encountered in any hotel, anywhere. Hope the
management of the hotel recognizes just what they have in her.
One tiny complaint and it is tiny.....no grab bar in the shower which
makes exiting the shower onto a wet floor a bit of an adventure.
Absolutely no question that when we are back in Whistler this would be
our hotel of choice.

I love the Sundial. An excellent location, great price and great rooms.
I think a valley view is better than a mountain view because it is
quieter but that is just my preference. A mountain view is nice for
people watching though very few rooms have decks. I would recommend this
hotel to anyone and will certainly stay here again, summer or winter!!!

I stayed at the Sundial from Aug 15th to 18th while attending seminars
at another hotel. The Sundial offered great value with spacious rooms
and amenities with every thing you would need for in room cooking and
dining. Location was great as you are only steps away from the lift area
and to Village shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay there again.
